Playable bounds: west -91.5465, south 41.6574, east -91.5338, north 41.6668. North is up. Equirectangular projection at latitude 41.662, 2.4 pixels per meter. Central campus includes the Pentacrest, Iowa Memorial Union, Main Library, and west-bank arts buildings. It does not include the entire university, hospital complex, athletics campus, or outlying properties. Source coverage may be incomplete or outdated.

Building footprints, river outlines and path/road centerlines are transformed OSM data; records retain OSM way IDs. Paths and bridge openings are widened for gameplay. Pedestrian traffic, recovery puddles, spawn, garden and recommended routes are fictional. Roads are traversable, railway bridges are not gameplay crossings, and this is not a real-world access or safety guide. No affiliation with the University of Iowa.

`campus.json` is the complete editable transformed database. The importer `tools/import_iowa_map.py` takes the two saved XML downloads as positional arguments and regenerates this file. Use Python with Shapely 2.1+ (constrained triangulation needs GEOS 3.10+) in an isolated environment. No network requests or Python geometry libraries are needed to run the game. Conversion checks river collision coverage and uses deterministic clearance-aware pathfinding to generate six regression routes (two approaches to each garden, including both river crossings for west-bank gardens). Runtime tests exercise those routes with actual movement and hazards.

Geographic context checked against the university's walking guide: https://transportation.uiowa.edu/alternative-transportation/bikewalk/walking-guide . University maps were used for reference only, not copied as game artwork.

Finishing gardens are chosen from three clearance-checked regions on both banks, at least 1,000 pixels apart and over 420 pixels from manhole exits. Selection and discovery persist through retries within the session. The separate teal rest garden is a fictional one-use strength refill per attempt, not a campus exit. All five original puddle positions are retained. Winning and replaying switches to a different region. `tools/place_iowa_gardens.py` regenerates this layout and its approach routes from the saved geometry; the importer also calls it. Regenerate pedestrian routes afterward.

`pedestrians.json` contains six building stops and thirty directed journeys for four roaming students, alongside the three bridge walkers. Regenerate it after changing campus geometry with `python3 tools/build_iowa_routes.py` in the same Shapely environment. Routes favor paths and keep a 30-pixel obstacle clearance, plus protected approaches around spawn, puddles and all garden sites. Runtime checks verify every route against actual collision geometry.

## Manholes

`manholes.json` contains four fictional random-travel entrances and approach points on the playable campus. Each trip selects one of the other three exits. Placement checks cover clear arrival space and unobstructed approaches; runtime checks enter every hole through normal movement and verify arrival protection. These are gameplay additions, not real underground infrastructure.
