FIELD NOTES / 003
Wormy, meet thumbs.
You asked for mobile. Wormy has no thumbs, so we’re borrowing yours.
You can now play Drake on your phone. Turn it sideways, use the green thumb pad to move, and tap the buttons to pause or restart. On iPhone or iPad, Safari’s Share → Add to Home Screen option gives you more room to play when you launch from the new icon.
Where’s my worm?
A player told me it wasn’t clear what to do or even where Wormy was when the game started. Fair point. There’s now a short introduction before the clock starts, and a green WORMY marker shows where you are until you move. You only see the introduction once per session.
Puddle breaks
Puddles now have ripples and a “REST STOP” label. They hide and heal you, but they also make you grow. A countdown shows when the next bit of tail is coming.
One thing we kept: the extra length bunches up while you’re still and unfolds when you move. A player liked that, and so did I.
We also fixed some touch-control problems. Cancelled gestures can’t start movement, and a screen resize while steering pauses the game so Wormy doesn’t carry on without you.
What can I play?
Version 0.2.0 is on itch.io and in the homepage game. Desktop downloads haven’t changed.
Mobile is still a preview. It’s been fun to play on my iPhone, but we haven’t tested every phone or browser. If something feels awkward, send me a note with your phone and browser.
What’s next?
Mobile and the starting instructions came directly from player feedback. Thanks for trying it and telling me what needed work.
Later on October 19: we connected Drake to Iowa on the separate playtest page. Iowa now has mapped campus buildings and bridges, three possible finishing-garden locations, and a rest garden that heals without ending the run. These are still being tested. The main itch.io release remains Drake-only.
